Studio Session [Maquettes and Materials]

Maquettes and Materials

A maquette is an initial, scaled-down version of your

proposed idea. It allows you to test the feasibility of

your idea without the pressure of it having to be

perfect or final.

Improvement

During a post-class discussion with tutor’s help, I shared my idea of combining geometric space with painting to express my thematic narrative. Through this workshop, I also gained a deeper understanding of the creative possibilities that come from mixing different materials. The instructor recommended several practical techniques well-suited to my approach, along with artists who work in similar media. Based on this valuable feedback, I refined and strengthened my visual expression to better align with my concept.

During the maquettes making session, I also sharing my idea with tutor Emily. In order to mixed with 3D object and drawing to organize space narrative of storytelling. Emily recommended that the creative methods of these two artists could be used as reference.

Saelia Aparicio

Her works create a three-dimensional effect by creating visual dislocations through the use of paintings and corner designs.

Milly peck

His works often divide objects into parts in terms of context. Then draw the contents on the board by cutting its outline in combination.

Making Maquettes

My plan is to take one of the works from my research and present it as a painting. What this project seeks to do is to present space-building games as a contextual setting for play therapy. I want to use three-dimensional installations to give viewers an immersive experience.

A lot of my references are looking for things related to window display design. Learn how they use limited space to combine planes and objects to construct spatial narratives.

[Playing Game|Secret Base]

I will create my maquettes based on a collage from my research.

I use a combination of fabric and paint to create my maquettes. Initially, wire was used to make the structure of the entire object. But it takes a lot of time and the efficiency is very low. I choose fabric to complete my maquettes because the softness and thickness of the fabric allow me to create a certain three-dimensional effect. And more details can be added to the fabric by painting.

I then continued to combine fabric with different media. Like an image transfer. Transfer the image to the fabric using glue. In this way, the painting image can be effectively transferred to the fabric.

Progress to image making

The inspiration and games come from the game “Building a House” secret base and hide-and-seek in the childhood.

Collage to Draw

I further extended it based on a collage of a hide-and-seek game that I researched in the early stage. I tried to combine the collage to create the picture I wanted in my needs, and then transformed it into a display picture of the image.

To find the subtle emotions of “flow State” in the game again. Hiding games and building games are activities to gain a sense of security in space. Through interaction and hiding, a subtle sense of security is established in the heart. Playing will continuously bring positive feedback, such as the joy of success, interaction with peers, or a sense of free exploration, which will stimulate the brain to release happy hormones and relax the body and mind naturally.
