Throughout this study period, I gained valuable hands-on experience that deepened my understanding of creative practice. I learned that the essence of visual art lies in building bridges of communication—using images, sounds, and even scents to tell stories beyond the limits of language. In this self-initiated project, I embraced the freedom to experiment, starting with different media and gradually developing a personal style. Through this process, I discovered the vast potential each material offers and how it can shape artistic expression.
While working on my themed project Play Together, I encountered various challenges that guided me toward clearer artistic direction. I realized that any feeling or thought could be transformed into art. “Play” is a broad concept, and I chose to focus on the participants, capturing small, joyful moments observed during play. I experimented with diverse creative media, painting techniques, and explored how different materials could interact spatially and narratively. In particular, I noticed significant contrasts in my observational narrative paintings through overlapping, layering, and arranging materials in different ways. This process led me to explore how emotions, space, and narrative could be combined and reconstructed, and how text and image could complement each other to enhance storytelling in my work.
Creating this body of work made me feel that my approach to art mirrored the spirit of play itself. Trial and error became a crucial part of the process, allowing me to turn imaginative ideas into visual expressions without fear of failure. I immersed myself in the joy of experimentation, producing artworks across various materials and surfaces, letting the playful emotion find its natural place in the work. Through this exploration, I also identified the medium that best suited me, helping me finalize my project with confidence.
Feedback from my tutor and classmates played a key role in shaping my work. Curatorial sessions and critiques provided valuable insights and suggestions, and my tutor’s guidance helped me make improvements that raised the quality of the final outcome.
This learning experience gave me not only technical and conceptual growth but also practical lessons in time management and understanding the limitations of different media. Although I sometimes struggled with planning, repeated experimentation helped me avoid recurring issues. I now appreciate trial and error as an essential creative strategy, and I intend to continue working in this exploratory way in my future practice.
