KIMIO MURAOKA

he employs to capture the subtle “signs” of nature and the intangible presence of his subjects. Muraoka emphasizes the importance of ambiguity in art, believing that leaving interpretations open-ended allows viewers to engage more deeply with his work.

I chose to study because this artist’s approach because of his bold use of mixed media, which sparked my curiosity to explore further. His work demonstrates a deep engagement with different materials, but what stood out to me was that his creative process focuses more on constructing the image he envisions, rather than being limited by the characteristics of each medium. His works go beyond the boundaries of a single canvas—he cuts, layers, and combines multiple images, creating rich, layered compositions with a strong sense of visual hierarchy. Inspired by this, I also experimented with similar techniques in my own creative process.
TEXT AND IMAGE
As to progress with my drawing and research outcome, I did some sketch to illustrated the main concept about the Surrounding feeling of joyful.
In my initial research focused on two areas. The first was about the positive emotions that play therapy can bring to children, and the second was about the joyful experience that building games can bring to me from playing.

Sketch of children’s Toys in Young V&A
Children’s imaginations are limitless. In my observation of toys. They all have one characteristic: children like toys because of their friendly faces and bright colors. There can be many stories behind a small object. Filled with such a fantasy world, one feels a worry-free and happy mood. Through combination, construction and arrangement, the children built their own utopia.
From Heart [Healing for where?]
I once read an article about healing and how to achieve positive emotions. It briefly describes the interaction between art design and the body. And the energy that surrounds people and how to obtain it. The artist uses images to express this invisible and subtle emotion. This also gives me endless inspiration. I try to find the scene of getting positive emotions based on my inner feelings. I also discovered that this behavior of obtaining “good emotions” is actually the self-healing energy given to people by the environment around them.

Healing comes from self
The healing design is inspired by the fusion of nature, emotion and culture. Use colors, shapes and materials to stimulate emotional resonance and create an immersive experience space. Explore sensory interactions such as touch, sound and light changes to promote relaxation. Combined with storytelling, it guides the audience to self-reflection and emotional release.

‘building games’ is to support emotional healing and development. The structured yet open-ended nature of these activities allows children to work through personal challenges at their own pace.
In my childhood memories. My favorite game is to use the large and small pieces of furniture at home to decorate my house. I really enjoy this feeling, it’s like I have my own territory. This is a space where you can gain energy.

By recording the joy in this game and the emotions of the children in it. I visualized my research into an image to summarize my text.
