When children are deeply engaged in play, they often enter a psychological state known as “Flow.” This is a moment when they become fully absorbed in the activity — so much so that they lose track of time, external distractions fade away, and their movements and decisions feel natural and effortless. Psychologically, this state brings a sense of joy, focus, and emotional balance.

From a behavioral perspective, play offers continuous positive reinforcement — whether through fun, discovery, social interaction, or a sense of mastery. These rewards encourage children to stay engaged, which further deepens their immersion.

In this state, their minds and bodies relax because they feel safe, in control, and internally motivated. There’s no pressure to perform or produce — only the simple, intrinsic pleasure of being in the moment. This is what makes play such a powerful tool for emotional regulation, creativity, and well-being.

Joy

Joy creating a sense of happiness, fulfillment, and well-being. It is often triggered by positive experiences.

Engaging with enjoyable activities, that could be make a person who can gain these experience to personal protection which enhance mood, reduce stress, and foster a sense of connection and pleasure.

Engage In Play activity

Also from my research of play therapy. I reach with many children’s activity from play ground, Kids garden. Joyful this part of emotions are spreading around everywhere.

Emotionally, joy manifests as lightness, excitement, or deep contentment, often accompanied by laughter, warmth, or a sense of inner peace. Socially, shared joy strengthens relationships.

Surrounded by positive emotions

This moment was captured in a social welfare organization. Children love playing in the ribbons. While playing, I saw the sense of freedom in playing. And the joy of being surrounded by ribbons. It reminds me of how this emotion feels like being embraced when it comes from the outside world.

This became my way of capturing emotional expression. I can observe an object and see the story behind it. Or use one thing or one action throughout the entire story to record or inspire people to resonate with this emotion.

Texture Making

I tried to create this painting through the texture of paper and the painting on the wooden frame. The paper with cotton and linen has some texture of fabric. Because this painting will contain many blooming and flowing elements. The paper with texture will better extend the picture.

When children are immersed in playing, they often enter a psychological state called the “Flow State”. This is a highly focused, fully engaged, selfless and pleasant experience. In this state, children do not feel anxious or stressed, their emotions are at a positive and stable level, and they are very relaxed psychologically.

I took a game activity recorded during the previous research as inspiration to try to depict a ‘Flow state’ when playing games. This picture mainly depicts a group of children wrapped in ribbons. They are immersed in the flowing ribbons with a very cheerful mood. Recording this flowing moment can well express the flow of mind that I observed.

There are many games in childhood, and the relaxation when playing games is a subtle experience. For me, this emotion is more like joy, a warm feeling that lingers around people.
